Accessing the Wireless
Network Configuration:
To use Windows 2000 to configure your wireless
connection to HotSpotzz, click on Start then Control
Panel.

In the Control Panel, click on the Network
and Internet Connections category.

Then click on the Network Connections
link, as shown below.

Configuring Wireless Network Settings
As described above, go to
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections
-> Network Connections.
Right-click your Wireless connection
icon under the LAN or High-Speed Internet section and click on Properties.

First, check your TCP/IP settings. Click
on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on the Properties
button.

In order to properly connect to
HotSpotzz, the connection should be set to Obtain an IP address
automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.
Click the OK button.

Next, check the Wireless Network
configuration by clicking on the Wireless Networks tab. If the
wireless device detected the HotSpotzz network, it will show up in the
list of Available networks. Checkmark the
option Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
With HotSpotzz selected in the list of Available
networks, click on the Configure button.

After clicking the Configure button, the
following screen appears:
The Network name
(SSID) needs to be set to "HotSpotzz" and Wireless
network key (WEP) should NOT be enabled. Because
HotSpotzz is an
Infrastructure-style WiFi connection, the option at the bottom to use a
computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network should also NOT be enabled.

If the connection is configured
properly, the Authentication tab settings should be entirely disabled.

Configuring Wireless Card Settings
The wireless card settings are somewhat
different depending on the card and the version of the driver. Look for
the key words: Channel, Network Type, and SSID. Your card may call
add words like "Preferred" in front of these, but the idea is the
same.
As described above, go to
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections
-> Network Connections.
Right-click your Wireless connection
icon under the LAN or High-Speed Internet section and click on Properties.

Click on the Configure button located
below the description of the WLAN adapter.

After clicking the Configure
button, the following screen appears.
Choose the Advanced tab to
see the screen below. There are three Properties on the left to be
modified. Your card may have these labeled somewhat differently.
a) Encryption =
Disabled
b) Network Type = Infrastructure
c) SSID
= HotSpotzz
In the Properties list on the
left, select Channel (or whatever your card happens to call it).
Then, in the Value at the right, choose 1.

In the Properties list on the
left, select Network Type (or whatever your card happens to call it).
Then, in the Value at the right, choose Infrastructure.

In the Properties list on the
left, select SSID (or whatever your card happens to call it).
Then, in the Value at the right, choose HotSpotzz.

View
Connection Status:
As described above, go to
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections
-> Network Connections.
To view the status of the connection, double-click
the Wireless Connection icon.

Use
this screen to view the connection status, the duration of the
connection, and other connection statistics.

View
Available Networks
As described above, go to
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections
-> Network Connection
To view available wireless networks, right-click the Wireless connection
icon and select View Available Wireless Networks.

If a you can connect for a short time to HotSpotzz then lose the
connection, open the Available wireless networks window and put a
checkmark in the Allow me to connect to the selected wireless network
option and click on the Connect button to reconnect to
HotSpotzz.

IMPORTANT: After making changes, you may
need to remove and reinsert your Laptop's Wireless Card.
